Plot[]

Following the events of Key to Ravenhearst, the Master Detective is found drifting in the ocean by a fishing boat. She is rushed to a hospital where, after the doctors examined the shard of glass on her arm, deem the detective delirious and send to an asylum (the one Charles, Alister, and Benedict had visited). Regaining conscious, the detective, now wearing bandages, opens sees one of the asylum workers, confused seeing that she is in her cell after finding out about a loose inmate before being stabbed by Charlotte with the glass shard, but plans to have some fun with the detective. She then leaves to find the key to the detective's cell.

Experiencing hallucinations of Alister, the detective discovers a hidden room where she learns that Alister and Gwendolyn have Madame Fate's crystal ball and are near the remains of the fallen Ravenhearst museum. After getting out of the cell and helping some inmates, the detective accesses the surveillance room where she learns Charlotte had used her car to get to the asylum. She also notices Tanatos watching her through the window. After locking Charlotte in the storage room, she hands the shard of glass to Tanatos and orders him to deliver it to Alister before destroying the camera.

At one point, the detective finds the same puzzle box from the previous game, which provides one last puzzle to solve. She escapes and follows Tanatos back to the remains of the Ravenhearst museum. Catching up to Alister and Gwendolyn, the detective witnesses Tanatos giving Alister the shard, but after learning of Charlotte's failure, murders Gwendolyn and approaches the cliff as a medieval town (what the ghost of Lena tried to show the detective in the previous game) rises out of the sea.

She sees Cedric Ravenhearst, the king of the medieval town and Emma Ravenhearst's ancestor, through a telescope, who isn't pleased to see Alister. Following Alister inside the kingdom, she finds him talking to Mowryn, a sorceress and Alister's former ally before a bomb explodes, cutting the detective off from them. She finds Ellen Homebolt, another Master Detective, who was imprisoned in a head trap inside the Baliff's office by Alister.

Inside a nearby workshop, she learns Alister was formerly a blacksmith's apprentice. After freeing Ellen, they split up to find Alister. The detective sees Cedric angrily complaining about Alister, as he was responsible for imprisoning the town underwater and freezing it in time. Ellen knocks out the detective and imprisons her in a cell, as she is worried about the detective's safety and wants to solve the case on her own but will release her once the case is solved.

After freeing herself, the detective resumes her explorations, eventually entering the castle. She notices Cedric confronting Mowryn behind a boarded-up door, who is threatening Cedric with a flesh-melting potion. Upon noticing Tanatos, Cedric quickly heads to the Well of Souls to confront Alister. The detective breaks through the door and fights Mowryn, eventually causing the potion to pour over her face and making her fall into the large pit.

Infiltrating the Well of Souls, the detective sees Alister absorbing energy from the well using the Ball of Fate to gain immortality while Cedric tries to stop him. Ellen is also nearby. Acquiring the Staff of Oscillations, a durable artifact, the detective confronts Alister and Cedric, knocking them into the well. They emerge from the well as green phantoms and decide to team up to destroy the detectives before fighting each other. Ellen distracts them, allowing the detective to shatter the Ball of Fate with the staff, destroying Alister and Cedric. Ellen dies from the fight and her soul possesses Tanatos, declaring the case closed. The detective finds herself back on the cliff as the kingdom sinks back into the ocean.

In the Bonus Content, which takes place decades before the main game, a young Alister plots to access the Well of Souls to gain immortality and joins forces with Mowryn, who seeks to take over the kingdom. Using an arriving group of actors as a distraction for Cedric, Alister visits the Apothecary, but the owner no longer wants to help due to the arrival of Ellen, forcing Alister to create a smoke bomb and orders Tanatos to throw it inside the Apothecary, forcing the owner out.

After finding the Black Lotus, which is the key to reaching the Well of Souls, he is caught by Ellen, who takes the Black Lotus and hides it in the Tavern. Alister escapes captivity and learns from Mowryn that Cedric, who didn't enjoy the play, had the actors arrested for their insulting performances. Alister heads to the Tavern to find the Lotus, but later learns that Ellen is heading to his workshop, where all of his evidence is stored. Alister catches up to Ellen and subdues her. She vows revenge before Alister places a head trap on her and imprisons her in the Baliff's office before resuming his quest for immortality.
